INTRODUCTION
Each student on our diploma course must undertake a major, individual project towards the end of the course. This final year project is intended to provide the students with the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge gained from the various modules in the development of a software or system to solve a practical problem. The student is expected to analyse the problem, to design, document, implement and test the system, and to review the project process and product.

It is our policy to encourage projects that are directly related to the computing activities of outside organizations. A project that is undertaken in association with an outside organization is classified as an external student project. Such a project may be carried out using the premises and resources of the organization.

Why External Student Projects?
(1) To acquaint our students with real-life working environments so that they can adapt to future employment more effectively;

(2) To provide opportunities for our students to apply the skills they have learnt and to gain work experience in IT-related environments;

(3) To provide opportunities for us to establish strong links with the industries so as to gain feedback on its courses and the performance of our students;

(4) To provide organisations with opportunities to experience the capabilities of our students and assess them as prospective employees.

Information for Participating Organisations
The project spans across the whole of the 15-week final semester, from January to April.

If you are interested in participation, please provide us with a brief proposal , giving a description of the project and the skills required. As preliminary work starts in the year before the final semester , ideally we would like to hear from you by around July and August to allow time to explore and refine the project scope and expectation.

Once we receive your proposal, we will try to match the skills of our students to your project requirements. Quite often, our students will need to pick up additional skills, before undertaking the project work.

We shall also assign our Project Supervisor to your project. The Supervisor takes academic responsibility for the student and provides counsel and advice as necessary. One of the responsibilities of the Project Supervisor is to ensure that the student obtains the necessary resources and he/she exhibits a professional approach to his/her work. The student will, however, be expected to work effectively without reliance on detailed guidance.
