The Diploma in Multimedia Computing course provides students with a strong grounding in the fundamental knowledge and skills required of IT professionals. The course will embrace studies in modern software design methods, data management, programming, problem solving and interpersonal communications. In addition, students will be able to explore the creative, some might even say artistic side of technology, utilising a mixture of media like video, audio and still images to make traditional text-based presentations or courseware more interesting and engaging. Students will have the opportunity to design and develop effective multimedia systems using new and established techniques and software tools.
The course is designed with foundational Core Modules supplemented by interesting Multimedia Prescribed Elective Modules and Optional Elective modules.
For this course, students are required to complete:
a) 14 core modules
b) 6 Multimedia Prescribed Elective Modules
c) 3 Optional Elective Modules
d) 1 Final Year Project
The Core Modules allow students to develop core competencies in IT and software development. Through the Multimedia Prescribed Modules, students will acquire the knowledge and skills to design and develop multimedia systems in an imaginative and effective way, using advanced multimedia software tools.
The Optional Elective Modules allow students to widen their spectrum of knowledge beyond the Core and Prescribed Modules.
Students are also required to undertake 12 Interdisciplinary Studies (IS) Modules as part of the Ngee Ann Learning Model. The IS Modules provide training in areas such as communications and life skills which are not usually found in a traditional technical curriculum. This is particularly crucial for IT professionals working in a modern business environment where problems are multi-faceted in nature, thus requiring knowledge and skills in different disciplines.
Students enrolled in this course are required to own notebook computers for their studies.
Accreditation and Opportunities for Further Studies
The Diploma in Multimedia Computing course has been certified to be of high academic excellence and granted accreditation from the British Computer Society for exemption from its professional examinations. Graduates will also enjoy advanced standing with local universities like the National University of Singapore and overseas institutions in Australia and the United Kingdom. |
