The Diploma in Information Technology offers a challenging, state-of-the-art education, for those who are interested in learning about the dynamic and growing field of information technology. The course provides students with a sound understanding of the underpinning concepts and principles. It offers a solid foundation of the essential technical skills to develop effective information systems for businesses and organisations in both the public and private sectors.
For this course, students are required to complete:
a) 14 core modules
b) 6 Prescribed Elective Modules
from any ONE of the following specialization majors:
- Bioinformatics
- e-Business
- Networking
- Software Engineering
c) 3 Optional Elective Modules
d) 1 Final Year Project
Students will undertake a set of common Core Modules, which focus on the fundamental knowledge and skills required of IT professionals. In addition, students will also enjoy a flexible curriculum, which allows them to pursue their interests in the niche areas of IT through the Prescribed Elective Modules leading to any one of the four specialization majors offered. The Optional Elective Modules allow students to widen their spectrum of knowledge beyond the Core and Prescribed modules.
Students are also required to undertake several Interdisciplinary Studies (IS) Modules as part of the Ngee Ann Learning Model. The IS Modules provide training in areas such as communications and life skills which are not usually found in a traditional technical curriculum. This is particularly crucial for IT professionals working in a modern business environment where problems are multi-faceted in nature, thus requiring knowledge and skills in different disciplines.
Students enrolled in this course are required to own notebook computers for their studies.
Accreditation and Opportunities for Further Studies
The Diploma in Information Technology course has been certified to be of high academic excellence and granted accreditation from the British Computer Society for exemption from its professional examinations. Hence, many of our graduates have gained direct entry into the final year of undergraduate courses conducted by universities in Australia, as well as the second year of the honours degree courses in the United Kingdom and the National University of Singapore. |
